There are so many different melodies to play. It must take a lot of discipline to learn them. When you are listening to music on the radio do you try to hear different melodies and learn them or do you learn everything by reading and studying.

I do however it all depends. Sometimes if I hear something I like I will either make a mental note and write it down later or right then and there. If I can not write it down I will record it with a digital recorder. When I find something I like, I study it and listen to it as to decyfer exactly what it is that I am hearing. However sometimes I do learn some by reading as well.
